Cutting Department

When the ground rubber tubes reach the cutting department, the cutting operator checks the Shop Order to identify the cut dimension(s).   These cut dimensions include the cut thickness and possibly one or more bevel angles.

The operator then slips the rubber tube onto a cutting mandrel and mounts it onto a cutting lathe.   Once again the tube is rapidly rotated on the lathe; only this time, one or more knives are pressed through the tubes giving each piece its final shape.

As the order is being run, the operator will check and chart the critical attributes being imposed by the cutting process to ensure the process remains in spec.   Finally, when the pieces have been cut from the tubes, they are then sent to Final Audit where they will be carefully evaluated for total spec compliance.
